There are over 12,000 yellow taxis in New York City and are the quickest and easiest way to get around Manhattan. Real NYC taxis are yellow, have a metal seal on the hood, a light with a taxi number on the roof, a meter for billing, stickers on the windshield for various licenses, special taxi license plates, and a divider in the car. Cabs are cash only and it's a good idea to have small bills because the cabbies can't usually break anything higher than $20. Tips of 10-20% are expected in both yellow cabs as well as livery cabs. The New York subway is one of the most efficient people transports in the entire world. MTA Subway System – Serves Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island through MTA Staten Island Railway. The primary method of fare payment is the Metrocard. A MetroCard is used to pay for bus and subway fares in New York City. There are two types of MetroCards: Pay-Per-Ride MetroCards and Unlimited Ride MetroCards. Nearly all the system of New York's subway remains open 24 hours per day, in contrast to the overnight shutdown common to systems in most cities, including London, Paris, Washington, Madrid and Tokyo.

New York City by Bus

There are many different bus lines, which provide good transport away from the subway. New York City's public bus fleet and commuter rail network are the largest in North America. When boarding a bus with a MetroCard, insert the card into the card slot in the top of the fare box by the driver.
