Near New York you'll find 3 major airports: John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport are large international airports while LaGuardia Airport is a busy domestic airport.
John F. Kennedy International Airport
The most important airport in New York is also the largest in the United States. Almost 50 million passengers use John F. Kennedy Airport each year. Many international airlines fly into JFK and it is a major international hub for Delta Airlines (Terminals 2 and 3) and American Airlines (Terminal 8). JFK covers 4,930 acres, including 880 acres in the Central Terminal Area. The airport has more than 30 miles of roadway.
JFK has seven operating airline terminals, surrounded by a dual ring of peripheral taxiways. More than 125 aircraft gates serve the terminals. The Central Terminal Area also includes a central heating and air-conditioning plant.
Transport JFK Airport
There are numerous public transportation options both to and from JFK. The New York City subways and buses run to JFK for $2.00. If you have large quantities of luggage, you may find it difficult to manage this long trip. Here are some tips on your many options.
AirTrain JFK
AirTrain JFK is the easiest way to get to, from and around Kennedy International Airport. The AirTrain JFK light rail system links JFK airport and the region's rail transportation network daily 24 hours. This high-speed, light-rail service links the airport to New York City and beyond. Opened in December 2003, AirTrain connects to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and the New York City subway and bus lines. Ground transportation information desks are situated on the Arrivals areas in all terminals.
Buses JFK
NYCTransit buses are operated by the MTA. The bus fare is $2.25 (MetroCard or exact change required). For information and schedules, call (718) 330-1234 or visit the MTA Web site. Bus stops are located on the east side of the arrivals roadway of Terminal 4.
Taxis JFK
Travellers are advised only to use taxis from the taxi dispatch booths at the airport. Flat Fare for a ride between JFK and Manhattan is $45 to the first destination (plus tolls and tip). The taximeter and receipt should reflect that this trip is a flat fare. There is no $1 peak time or 50-cent night surcharge for these trips. Taxis into the city take anywhere from 30-60 minutes.
