Long-distance rail lines connect Berlin with all of the major cities of Germany and with many cities in neighboring European countries. Berlin has one of the oldest and most extensive metro networks in Europe. The rapid transit network actually comprises two separate systems, the U-Bahn with 9 lines, and the S-Bahn. The Berlin S-Bahn consists of 15 lines and is integrated with the mostly underground U-Bahn to form the backbone of Berlin's rapid transport system. U-bahn Trains run every two to five minutes during peak hours, every five minutes for the rest of the day and every ten minutes in the evening and on Sunday. The U-Bahn and the S-Bahn operate daily between 04:00 and 01:30. www.bvg.de
Berlin by bike
Call a Bike (07000 5225522) is a special service of Deutsche Bahn AG: a whole fleet of superb high-tech bikes is at your service in Berlin. 16 Million Euros were invested in expanding intercity bike paths for bicycle tourism. The idea behind this system is that many of the trips that people make inside a city begin at the railway station and, if you have an appointment somewhere in the city centre for instance, end there again. The railway station is therefore the starting and finishing point of your journey by bike. Please note that the bicycle has to be returned to the Call a Bike pick-up point where you hired it. Tourism by bicycle has seen a strong increase on the route along the former Berlin Wall and for trips on long distance bike paths such as the Berlin-Copenhagen route.

Rental cars can also be picked up from Tegel airport or Schoenefelt Airport and the railway station.
