Airports near Berlin

Berlin Airports guarantees the air traffic infrastructure for the capital region of Berlin Brandenburg with the airports Schoenefeld and Tegel. In September 2006, work was started on expanding Schoenefeld Airport into the new Capital Airport Berlin Brandenburg International (BBI). From 2011, all air traffic will flow through the new Capital Airport Berlin Brandenburg International BBI in the south-east of the city. In the first step, Tempelhof Airport was closed on 30 October 2008. This will be followed in 2011 by the closure of Tegel Airport and the opening of BBI. Berlin is directly connected to the Chinese capital Beijing, New York, Bangkok and Doha, the capital of Qatar.

Berlin Tegel Airport

Tegel airport is located 8km northwest of Berlin. In 2011 when all Berlin air traffic will move the redeveloped Schönefeld Airport to the south east of the city, Tegel Airport will close down. More info can be found at www.berlin-airport.de

Facilities Tegel airport

The airport has banking and bureaux de change, ATMs and a post office. Wireless Internet access is available for a fee, at various locations throughout the airport. There are several cafés, restaurants and bars located throughout the terminal buildings. An extensive shopping area can be found aswell at the airport, including duty-free in the Departures zones, and a supermarket. A left-luggage and lost property facility is available in the main hall. Trolleys are available free of charge. There is a 24-hour first aid service and baby change facilities.

Public transport Tegel Airport

The Jet Express Bus connects TXL with Alexanderplatz, running via Unter den Linden and the city's main railway station, while bus 128, 109 and X9 run to various city locations, for connections to the city’s subway transport system and the overland S-Bahn trains.

Berlin Schoenefeld Airport

This international airport is located near the town of Schönefeld in Brandenburg, 18 km southeast of Berlin's city centre. In September 2006, work was started on expanding Schoenefeld Airport into the new Capital Airport Berlin Brandenburg International (BBI).

Limited S-Bahn train service to/from Schoenefeld Airport

Due to the construction work being carried out at Ostkreuz train station, it is no longer possible to take a direct S-Bahn train from Berlin city centre. Passengers are advised to take the RE7 or RB14 AirportExpress directly to the airport/city centre.

Passengers travelling into the city centre please use the AirportExpress from Schoenefeld train station. The RE 7 and RB 14 lines run every hour via Ostbahnhof, Alexanderplatz, Friedrichstrasse, central station, Zoological Garden to Charlottenburg train station. All destinations in the city centre can be reached via these lines and connections to U-Bahn trains.

The S-Bahn S9 runs between Schoenefeld Airport and Treptower Park station, where there is a connection to lines S41 and S42 of the Berlin Ringbahn. Line S45 is not running.
