Transport Beijing

Beijing is an important transportation hub in northern China. Airlines connect Beijing to more than 110 cities at home and abroad while the city boasts a fine railroad and highway system for local travelers. Radiating skyways, roads and railways make it easy for visitors to reach the city. Urban construction has brought new changes to Beijing, building a unique combination of ancient civilization and modern metropolis. Centered on Beijing, a complex railway net has been formed that leads to cities far and near in China. In addition, there are 12 national highways and 9 speedways radiating out in all directions. Nineteen long-distance bus stations have their main terminals in Beijing.

Beijing by bus

The ticket fee for a public bus in Beijing is very cheap and there are hundreds of public bus routes in Beijing. The ticket price for buses with air conditioning is CNY2, without you often pay CNY 1. Buses number 1 to number 122 run in the downtown area, buses number 300 to number 949 run to the outskirts of Beijing. To avoid very crowded buses, don't take a public bus during rush hours. The Yikatong card can be used to pay on public buses, taxis, subways and even some supermarkets and restaurants. You can buy cards at the ticket office of the Beijing Subway, some supermarkets and some Post Offices.

Beijing subway

The Beijing Subway network has 9 lines, 147 stations and 228 km of tracks in operation and delivers over 4 million rides per day. This is the fastest transportation in Beijing and they are a good way to avoid frequent traffic jams. They connect city center stops such as Tiananmen Square, Qianmen, and the railway station with outlying areas. In Beijing the subway stations are marked with a blue sign with the letter D inside a circle. There are many attractions worth visiting along the Subway Line 2, like Tiananmen Square, Xiushui Market, Temple of Confucius and Ancient Observatory. A flat fare of CNY 2.00 with unlimited transfers applies to all lines. All lines now collect fares through automatic fare collection machines that accept single-ride tickets and the Beijing Yikatong. Yikatong is a Transportation Smart Card, similar to Hong Kong's Octopus card, Singapore's EZ-Link, or the Oyster Card used by TfL in London, United Kingdom. The Yikatong card can be bought for CNY 20 at most ticket counters at Beijing Subway stations and some bus stations. The card can also be used at some supermarkets and restaurants.
