Public Transport

Most public transport in the Brussels-Capital Region is organized by the STIB (Société des Transports intercommunaux bruxellois). Public transport in Brussels is made up of metro lines, train lines, buses and trams. Inner-city transport uses the same ticketing system so you can use the same ticket for bus, metro or tram or a combination. A card that can be used for ten rides on public transport costs €12.30. One hour tickets cost €1.70 if pre-purchased and are available from the driver for €2,- One, five and ten ride tickets are available at almost all metro and train stations. There are also one-day tickets available, for €4.50.

Brussels by metro

There are 4 metro lines, numbered 1, 2, 5, and 6. They make up a network of 38.7 km with 59 stations, offering connections with major attraction spots of the city, especially in and around the city centre. The Brussels Card offers free entry to almost all museums along with free travel in the city. The Brussels metro has become a lively museum. Numerous works of arts decorate platforms, ticket rooms and corridors.

Brussels by Train

Brussels is easily reached by Eurostar from London and by Thalys from Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne. Brussels has three main rail stations - the North Station (Gare du Nord), the South Station (Gare du Midi) and the Central Station (Gare Centrale), which is close to the Grand Place itself.

Brussels by Taxi

Most taxis tend to gather by the city's three train stations, around the Grand Place, on the Place Stéphanie, and directly outside of the Hotel Amigo, at the intersection of the Rue de la Violette and Rue Charles Buls.

Brussels by Bike
